# Base Data

> Base data is the foundational product information needed to run an accurate LCA screening. Follow the steps below to complete it.

  <Step title="Create a new screening">
    Click **Create screening**, enter a name for your screening, and press **Create screening** to confirm.

  <Step title="Open Base Data">
    Click the pen icon next to your screening to open the Base Data editor. Start by inserting an accurate photo of the product you are screening.

  <Step title="Enter your SKU number">
    Type your **SKU** (Stock Keeping Unit) number — the item code used in warehouses to identify and track products.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your EAN number">
    Type your **EAN** (European Article Numbering) number. This is a 13-digit identification number — no letters.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter total weight incl. packaging">
    Enter the total weight of the product including all packaging.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select a category">
    Click **Select category** and navigate to the correct category for your product.

    <Warning>
      The category choice is critical for screening accuracy. Together with supplier locations, it determines which use phase and disposal calculations are applied to the life cycle screening.

  <Step title="Enter claims replacement rate">
    Enter the percentage of products you replace for customers due to claims on a 12-month basis.

    <Note>
      If nothing is entered, a PEF-defined default will be used. Only include cases with physical redelivery of the product — discounts, credit notes, and gift cards should NOT be included here.

  <Step title="Enter logistics replacement rate">
    Enter the percentage of products lost or broken during transport and storage.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload a product photo">
    Upload an accurate photo of the product.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select manufacturing location">
    Select the location where your product is manufactured. The country share will appear automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your base data">
    Click **Update base data** to save.
