When creating a screening in Målbar LCA, you can assign a Screening type in Base Data. This tells the tool how the product is used — whether it’s a finished product or a component that feeds into other screenings.
Choosing the right screening type ensures your climate footprint calculations are accurate and that components are reused correctly across your product portfolio.
The four screening types
Product
The default type. Use this for finished, sellable products — items that are sold directly to customers.
Examples: a chair, a lamp, a textile item.
Product-ready component
A complete sub-product that is assembled into a finished product without further modification. It has a fixed weight and material composition.
Examples: a seat cushion, a drawer unit, a lamp shade.
Use this type when the component is always used in a fixed quantity and does not need to be scaled.
Scalable component
A component whose contribution to the final product is based on a proportion of its total weight — for example, a fabric roll where only part of it ends up in the finished product.
Examples: fabric sold by the metre, foam sold by weight, a sheet of glass cut to size.
Use this type when only a fraction of the component ends up in your final product.
Electrical component
A component that consumes electricity during its use phase. Målbar LCA applies specific use phase calculations based on power consumption.
Examples: a motor, a LED driver, a battery charging unit.
